Design

The iPhone 12 comes with a new flat edge design. These flat edges add to the device’s beauty and offer a break from the typical round edges. Accordingly, the phone is more durable due to Apple’s new Ceramic Shield material. 

MagSafe 

Magnets are becoming a new technological concept that many find baffling. However, Apple has embraced it in the new iPhone 12 design. The phone features a ring of a magnet at the back that enables various MagSafe ecosystem accessories, such as wireless chargers, cases, and wallet attachments that can be snapped on and off.

However, the iPhone 12 is still compatible with any wireless charger and Qi accessories even though they might need a third-party solution that integrates MagSafe to reach peak speeds. 

Display

The iPhone 12 solves the LCD problem experienced in the iPhone 11 series. The iPhone 12 features a new 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, similar to iPhone 12 Pro.

This phone features a 2532×1170 resolution for better clarity. Additionally, it packs HDR10 enabled spec that allows you to view videos recorded with its rear camera equipped with a Vision.

Cameras

From an outside appearance, the iPhone 12’s camera seems unchanged. The dual-lens rear cameras take a similar arrangement to its predecessor’s. They also come in wide and ultrawide optics and 12-megapixel sensors. 

In the inside, the cameras have received a decent upgrade. The primary camera now has a ƒ/1.6 aperture for a new 7-element design. This is the largest that the iPhone has ever gone. 

Accordingly, the camera comes with a low-light performance improvement of 27%. It also packs an advanced HDR and Deep Fusion that enables a more detailed shoot in every condition. 

Video 

Apple has improved its 4K HDR video recording. The iPhone 12 can now record Dolby Vision videos at 30 frames per second. 

5G

Almost every smartphone is now 5G enabled. However, the iPhone 12 comes with better distinguishable features to your ordinary 5G. 

The iPhone 12 is built to support most kinds of 5G, giving it greater chances for 5G coverage. Additionally, this device works on both sub-6GHz 5G and the faster and short-range 5G. this dual coverage ensures that your iPhone supports more than one network. 

Performance 

The iPhone 12 delivers better performance that does not wave. This is enabled by the addition of Apple’s new A14 Bionic; 5-nanometer processor. The performance is even better when encoding videos as the iPhone 12 only takes 26 seconds to transcode a 4K video to 1080p by Adobe’s Premiere Rush app. In contrast, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra takes one minute and 16 seconds. 

Battery life and charging 

Apple does not reveal its battery capacity. However, studies suggest that the iPhone 12 works with a 2,815-mAh battery.

The iOS 14 features some intriguing specs, such as true widget support and some improvements to privacy aspects. 

iPhone 12 vs Samsung Galaxy S21

The Samsung Galaxy S21 is a direct Android rival to the iPhone 12. The Samsung Galaxy S21 features a smooth 120Hz display better camera zoom at 3x hybrid optical and 30x digital. The Samsung Galaxy S21 also costs $799, similar to the iPhone 12.

However, the iPhone 12 have the edge over the S21 due to its better performance and photo and video quality. Besides, the iPhone 12 comes with a glass back, compared to S21’s plastic back.

Overall, the iPhone 12 is a great phone, though it has some shortcoming like the lack of charger. Its new Super Retina XDR panel comes as a better improvement to its predecessor’s LCD panel.
